In the late 90's I traveled through Europe with a Eurorail pass, an overstuffed backpack, and a dog-eared copy of Lonely Planet.

While in Paris, I was invited to go stargazing with a group that included a photographer, an astronomer, a chef, an artist, a writer, and their friends. The mission for the evening was to test out a telescope the photographer and astronomer had modified to capture experimental images of a celestial event.

I was all in, eager to see what this charcuterie of creatives had in store. We jumped into our cars and convoyed out to the countryside.

We were on the cosmo's schedule. It was a long evening punctuated in Frenglish, but I was thrilled to be in the mix. The chef brought some themed food, others brought wine, the artist sketched, and the photographer & the astronomer were excited to see what images they captured. We looked like a 90's version of a Seurat painting, lounging on blankets looking at the stars. I never got to see their final images, but it's an experience I've carried with me ever since.

Fast forward to Newburgh, NY 2025, now with the perfect opportunity to bring that experimental spirit back through "PRISMA | Facets of Creativity". This new series of events invites a multidisciplinary group of artists and creatives to reinterpret a shared source of inspiration through the lens of their own lived experience, discipline, and voice.

Our first event will be at the ADS-DAS Gallery in Newburgh from September 19 - October 1, 2025, inspired by our muse, Rumi Tsuda (1947-2022). A prolific Japanese-American artist whose work spanned painting, sculpture, ceramics, drawing, fashion, and performance art. Each invited artist and creative will select a piece of her artwork and create something new in response. We're looking forward to seeing what this extraordinary group has created.
