Archtober Newburgh is a locally organized extension of the month-long Archtober events hosted in New York City. Through a series of free events, it highlights the city's architectural history, connects residents to local resources, and supports ongoing community initiatives.
A standout part of their programming in recent years has been the Look! Mira! Architecture Scavenger Hunt. In collaboration with The Fullerton and Archtober Newburgh, we designed this scavenger hunt and walking tour map to spotlight architectural gems throughout one of The City of Newburgh's historic residential neighborhoods.

A typical map is about efficiency, getting a commuter from one location pin to another as quickly as possible. This one needed to be a charismatic greeter— inviting, inclusive, and conversational while leaving room for exploration. Too structured, and it feels rigid, too open and it becomes confusing.
The color palette, illustration style, and content have made this a keepsake participants hang on to. Even without a fixed route, the layout helps people decide where to begin and how to move through the experience.
The scavenger hunt is structured around a set of clues tied to specific streets and architectural features, turning the city into something you actively read.
Events like Archtober Newburgh bring together residents, volunteers, preservationists, historians, designers, community leaders, and visitors creating a shared entry point into conversations about history, development, and the future of the city.
Look! Mira! supports that by making the experience accessible, regardless of someone's familiarity with architecture.
The map is just the beginning, the experience unfolds across the city during Archtober Newburgh.
